Misty Garden - eher Misty Sea / turns to Misty Sea

Mein vom-weißen-Kardenband-zu-einem-farbigen-Schal-Projekt war wohl ein Speed-Projekt :-D Da ich auf jeden Fall bis März etwas haben wollte, habe ich die Spindel gegen das Spinnrad ausgetauscht. Und es ging -trotzdem ich ein echter Anfänger bin- super schnell. Die Wolle von meiner Spindel habe ich auch verzwirnt. Sie wandert jetzt in eine Mütze für meinen Vater, der total begeistert von den Farben ist.

The from-white-roving-to-a-coloured-scarf-project developed to a speed project :-D. Because I had a time frame in my head being ready with the yarn at least till beginning of march (to have something to offer) I switched from spindle to wheel. It went very fast although I am a real beginner in spinning. The yarn from the spindle I plied too. It is going to be part of a hat for my father who is in love with the yarn and the colours.

Nach dem Zwirnen und Waschen war das Garn ganz schön dick geworden...und superweich. Ich muss erst einmal ein Feeling dafür bekommen, wie dick oder dünn ein Faden sein muss, damit er 2-fädig einer bestimmten Nadelstärke entspricht. Glücklicherweise ist das bei einem Schal, der nicht mit ganz dünnen Nadeln gestrickt wird und dann riesig würde, nicht so schlimm.

So sah dann die Maschenprobe mit Nd. 6mm statt Nd. 4.5mm aus. Ich war erstaunt. Hey, das habe ich gemacht :-).

After plying and washing the yarn it bloomed a lot and was bulky...and super soft. As a beginner I have to develop a feeling about the singles size I have to spin to get the yarn for the needle size I want to use. Fortunateley is not so important for a scarf project as long as it is not knitted with super-thin yarn with the outcome of a huge scarf.



And this is what the gauge swatch looked like with needle size 6mm instead of 4.5mm. I was amazed. I did that :-).






Den Schal zu stricken war dann ein Kinderspiel und ging schneller als erwartet, knapp zwei Tage mit den dicken Nadeln. Da der Schal nicht allzu breit und lang ist (ca. 1,50m), ging das Ganze wirklich gut.

Knitting the scarf was a piece of cake. Hence the project width and length (approx. 1.50m) is moderate, 2 days and it was finished.

Misty Garden - die Wolle / the yarn

Ich möchte einen Schal für eine ganz besondere Person machen... und habe mir gedacht, warum nicht das Garn selber machen. Nicht vom Schaf holen, aber zumindest aus weißer Wolle bunte machen und die dann zu Garn spinnen, mit dem man dann hoffentlich auch stricken kann.

Ich habe in meinem Spinnvorrat (ja, auch Anfänger fangen schon mit dem Horten an) 100% Merino in Naturweiß. Davon habe ich 300g abgewogen und mit verschiedenen Seidenmalfarben (Dampffixierung) in der Mikrowelle gefärbt. Das Ergebnis ließ mich erst einmal zweifeln, ob das ganz Zeug überhaupt noch zu verspinnen sei oder ob ich das Ganze nicht schon gut gefilzt hatte. Nach ca. 2 Tagen Trockenzeit und zwischendurch schon einmal zupfen an einem trockenen Ende, war ich zumindest beruhigt, dass die Wolle noch ok war. Ich musste nur alles neu auflockern. Das mache ich jetzt etappenweise, wenn ich mich durch den Strang spinne.

Da auf meinem Spinnrad gerade Wolle läuft, die ich parallel gerne weitermachen würde (wann?), habe ich mir eine neue Handspindel gegriffen. Das Garn soll nicht allzu fein sein, daher konnte ich die etwas schwerere Spindel nehmen. Sie läuft wunderbar rund. Man kann sie sogar wie ein Kreisel auf dem Boden antreiben und nutzen.

Die Farbentwicklung gefällt mir supergut. Ich hätte nicht gedacht, dass das alles so pudrig aussehen würde, nachdem ich das trockene Schnürlteil gesehen habe. Ich bin noch am Überlegen, ob ich mit dem einfädigen Garn stricken werde oder es lieber verzwirne. Aber bis zu diesem Schritt habe ich noch eine Portion Arbeit vor mir...und an sich nur einen Monat Zeit. Ich möchte aber auch gerne beim Spring Shawl am Ball bleiben. Den 4. Hinweise werde ich voraussichtlich heute oder morgen fertig bekommen. Dann kann mich voll auf das Spinnen stürzen. Alles andere muss halt warten.

Mal sehen, ob das klappt. Ansonsten gibt es eine Gutschein auf das fertige Teil.

I would like to knit a scarf for a very special person... and I thought, why not produce the yarn myself. Oh no, not shearing a sheep but dyeing white yarn and spin it to yarn one can knit with hopefully.

I have some nice white merino in my stash (yes, even beginning spinners can have a stash). I took 300 gr. an dyed it with some silk colours in the microwave. The result looked kind of strange to me. I was not sure whether I would ever be able to spin with that yarn or if I have felted it. After 2 days of waitung while the yarn dried - meanwhile I took a sample from a dry end - I calmed down a little bit. The yarn was still fine and 'spinable'. I only had to fluff it up again. I do that now when I take a new portion for spinning.

Currently on my spinning wheel is another yarn I woud like to finish (when?) hence I thought, why not use a spindle. The yarn should not be too fine so I chose a spindle a little bit heavier. She spins very good and stable. You can use her even as a supported spindle like a top.

I definitely like the colourway. I never thought I would get these powdery blendings when watching this strange skein drying. I still do not know whether I am going to knit with the singles or if I make a 2-ply. But until this step there is a lot of spinning work to be done before...and this in a month's time. I would like to be in time with spring shawl as well. The 4th clue I will finish today or tomorrow. Then I can concentrate in spinning. The other stuff is on hiatus.

We will see if this works. Otherwise I will give a coupon on the finished scarf.
