Misty Garden - die Wolle / the yarn

Ich möchte einen Schal für eine ganz besondere Person machen... und habe mir gedacht, warum nicht das Garn selber machen. Nicht vom Schaf holen, aber zumindest aus weißer Wolle bunte machen und die dann zu Garn spinnen, mit dem man dann hoffentlich auch stricken kann.

Ich habe in meinem Spinnvorrat (ja, auch Anfänger fangen schon mit dem Horten an) 100% Merino in Naturweiß. Davon habe ich 300g abgewogen und mit verschiedenen Seidenmalfarben (Dampffixierung) in der Mikrowelle gefärbt. Das Ergebnis ließ mich erst einmal zweifeln, ob das ganz Zeug überhaupt noch zu verspinnen sei oder ob ich das Ganze nicht schon gut gefilzt hatte. Nach ca. 2 Tagen Trockenzeit und zwischendurch schon einmal zupfen an einem trockenen Ende, war ich zumindest beruhigt, dass die Wolle noch ok war. Ich musste nur alles neu auflockern. Das mache ich jetzt etappenweise, wenn ich mich durch den Strang spinne.

Da auf meinem Spinnrad gerade Wolle läuft, die ich parallel gerne weitermachen würde (wann?), habe ich mir eine neue Handspindel gegriffen. Das Garn soll nicht allzu fein sein, daher konnte ich die etwas schwerere Spindel nehmen. Sie läuft wunderbar rund. Man kann sie sogar wie ein Kreisel auf dem Boden antreiben und nutzen.

Die Farbentwicklung gefällt mir supergut. Ich hätte nicht gedacht, dass das alles so pudrig aussehen würde, nachdem ich das trockene Schnürlteil gesehen habe. Ich bin noch am Überlegen, ob ich mit dem einfädigen Garn stricken werde oder es lieber verzwirne. Aber bis zu diesem Schritt habe ich noch eine Portion Arbeit vor mir...und an sich nur einen Monat Zeit. Ich möchte aber auch gerne beim Spring Shawl am Ball bleiben. Den 4. Hinweise werde ich voraussichtlich heute oder morgen fertig bekommen. Dann kann mich voll auf das Spinnen stürzen. Alles andere muss halt warten.

Mal sehen, ob das klappt. Ansonsten gibt es eine Gutschein auf das fertige Teil.

I would like to knit a scarf for a very special person... and I thought, why not produce the yarn myself. Oh no, not shearing a sheep but dyeing white yarn and spin it to yarn one can knit with hopefully.

I have some nice white merino in my stash (yes, even beginning spinners can have a stash). I took 300 gr. an dyed it with some silk colours in the microwave. The result looked kind of strange to me. I was not sure whether I would ever be able to spin with that yarn or if I have felted it. After 2 days of waitung while the yarn dried - meanwhile I took a sample from a dry end - I calmed down a little bit. The yarn was still fine and 'spinable'. I only had to fluff it up again. I do that now when I take a new portion for spinning.

Currently on my spinning wheel is another yarn I woud like to finish (when?) hence I thought, why not use a spindle. The yarn should not be too fine so I chose a spindle a little bit heavier. She spins very good and stable. You can use her even as a supported spindle like a top.

I definitely like the colourway. I never thought I would get these powdery blendings when watching this strange skein drying. I still do not know whether I am going to knit with the singles or if I make a 2-ply. But until this step there is a lot of spinning work to be done before...and this in a month's time. I would like to be in time with spring shawl as well. The 4th clue I will finish today or tomorrow. Then I can concentrate in spinning. The other stuff is on hiatus.

We will see if this works. Otherwise I will give a coupon on the finished scarf.

Spring Shawl Surprice 1 + 2

Eines der vielen neuen Mysteries. Ich habe mich diesesmal für die Mitstrickerei beim Spring Shawl Surprice (yo, so wird es geschrieben) entschieden. Das Thema 'Frühling' benötigt natürlich eine dementsprechende Farbe. Ich habe mich dazu durchgerungen, meine wie ein Schatz gehütete Kone Jaggerspun Zephyr in der Farbe 'Lady Slipper' (Nd. 3mm) anzubrechen. Die Wolle ist wunderbar. Ich habe bisher noch nicht mit ihr gestrickt, weil sie für etwas gaaanz besonderes sein sollte. Bis jetzt muss ich sagen, dass meine Auswahl für diesen Shawl genau richtig ist. Das Design ist besonders. Teilweise richtige Spitze mit Muster in Hin- und Rückreihen. Für mich wunderschön. Ich bin auch mit dem 3. Hinweis bereits fertig, da er aber eine Fortsetzung des eingeführten Musters ist, sieht das Tuch jetzt nicht dramatisch anders aus. Mit Hinweis 4 wird dann wohl wieder eine neue Herausforderung auf uns zukommen *freu*.

One of the many current mysteries. I decided to do the just-in-time knitting in the Spring Shawl Surprice ( yepp, it is written this way). The theme 'spring' called for an adequate colour choice. So I made up my mind to use my long saved Jaggerspun Zephyr colour 'Lady Slipper' for this project. The yarn is simply fabulous. I planned to use it for something real special. Until now I have to say I made the right decision. The pattern is fantastic with real lace parts. I finished the 3rd clue yesterday. This one was the continued part of the 2nd one, no new ornaments which will come with clue 4, I guess. Till now ... I love the very lacy pattern. Just to my taste.

Nicht viel Zeit ... / Not much time ...

... zu viel Arbeit und dann ... Urlaub :-)

Ich hatte ein paar einfache Strickteile dabei (Foto ;-)) Da die Temperaturen selbst nachts nicht unter 25°C fielen, war Wolle ein no-no. Wir hatten viel Spaß bei unserer Karibik-Kreuzfahrt, lernten viele nette Leute kennen und haben eindrucksvolle Dinge gesehen und erlebt.

Aufgrund meines relativ hohen Arbeitsanfalls kam ich nicht häufig zum Stricken. Ich habe aber meinen Ruffle-Rock und Secret of the Stole fertig bekommen (noch nicht gewaschen + geblockt). Zur Zeit arbeite ich an einem Babyjäckchen für eine Kollegin, Babyschuhe folgen. Ich habe eine Paar Mary Jane-Sockschuhe entworfen und Probe gestrickt. Mein rosé Pulli ruht, dafür arbeite ich mal wieder an meinen Frost Flowers-Tuch (seeehr langsam, da viiiiele Maschen).

Ich hoffe, dass ich im neuen Jahr wieder mehr Zeit zum Stricken und zum regelmäßigen Bloggen habe.

... too much work and then ... holidays :-)

I had some easy knitting with me as you can see on the photo. Tempratures were never below 25°C (at night) so no wool please. We enjoyed the cruise in the carribean a lot, met nice people and saw a lot of interesting places.

Due to my work load I had not much time for knitting, but I was able to finish the Ruffle skirt and the Secret of the stole mystery (not dressed up yet). I am working on a baby jacket for a colleague and some baby booties are planned as well. I designed and prototype knitted some Mary Jane slippers. My pink raglan pullover is currently on hold but I pulled out my frost flowers shawl to do a couple of rows (veeery slowly, maaaany stitches).

I hope that the new year will bring more time for knitting and frequently blogging back again.

Spinnen / Spinning

Secret of the Stole ist in der Warteschleife. Habe z.Zt. etwas Stress und bin, wenn ich zu Hause bin, so platt, dass ich nur noch wenige Reihen schaffe. Da noch ein Geburtstagsgeschenk in der Pipeline ist, hat dieses Vorrang. Seit einiger Zeit plagt mich der Wunsch Spinnen zu lernen. Für den Sommer hatte ich mich auf einer historischen Burg zu einem Spinn- und Färbekurs angemeldet, der dann aber leider ausfiel. Im neuen Jahr werde ich das wieder dort angehen, in der Hoffnung, dass es diesesmal klappt.

Vorher hatte ich mir schon ein Spindelset aus einer Lernspindel und einer Mittelalter-Tonspindel mit etwas kardierter Rohwolle besorgt und geprobt. Ich war nicht sooo überzeugt von meinen Künsten, hatte aber Spaß dabei. Lange blieb das Set nicht genutzt liegen...zu lange. Vor ein paar Tagen habe ich wieder gespindelt und dann von der großen Spindel die Wolle auf eine "Mess-"Pappe gespannt. Dann kam die Tonspindel, die eindeutig dünneres Garn zu produzieren hilft. Ich komme mit ihr recht gut klar...meine Katzen auch :-D Affentanz um die Spindel. Hier sind die ersten Ergebnisse:

Secret of the Stole is on hold. I have little bit of stress these days. Sometimes when I am at home I am just able to knit a couple of rows (sometimes not a single row - I am too tired). And there is a birthday present with higher priority. Well, for some time now I have thoughts about spinning my own yarn. Last summer I planned to take part in a spinning and dying class at a medieval castle and what happened? The class was skipped -unfortunately. The upcoming year I will try it again.

Just before the class I bought a spindle set with a big beginner spindle and a small medieval clay spindle - all bottom whorl - with some roving and practised. I was not very convinced about my outcome but it was a pleasure to work with the tools. Then I had no time for it and I put the stuff aside..until a couple of days ago when I thought this is the real activity against stress syndrom :-D..and it is. Yesterday I wound the yarn from the big spindle on a measuring cardboard and tried the medieval spindle for the first time. It produces finer yarn and is a pleasure to work with...also for my cats. We all do a crazy dance around, I try to keep them away and they chase me :-D. These are the first results:

Show-Off Ruffle Skirt - Update 02

Der Rock macht Fortschritte, besser gesagt, machte, denn ich bin seit einer Woche nicht zum Stricken an diesem Stück gekommen...leider :-(. Nachdem die endlosen Reihen an Gnubbeln fertig waren, kam das Aufribbeln dran. Auch so ein Thema, wenn man den Rock mit Wolle statt mit Baumwolle macht. Die Fasern verhaken sich und man muss alles fein säuberlich mit der Hand nach unten ribbeln. Das war einige Stunden Arbeit. Dann ging es los mit dem eigentlichen Rockteil. Das ging sehr zügig. Der Teil, wo die Abnahmen beginnen, wird dann wieder tricky, denn man kann nicht mehr so einfach blind stricken, da die Rippen nicht mehr gleich verteilt sind. Werde mich später, solange es noch hell ist (schwarze Wolle im Dunklen!!!), daran setzen.

The skirt progresses! Better to say it progressed. I was not able to work on it for one weak now. After finishing the endless bobble rows the frogging started which costed a lot of time. I used wool and not cotton or. And the single strands of yarn got caught so I had to loosen each row manually. Then the skirt part started. It was easy knitting until the decrease section. From now on I have to concentrate on the ribbing because it is alternating. No more blind knitting except I count all the time. Today I will grab the piece and work on it.
